Music - Helena Blues Project
We’re happy to be back at the Staggering Ox as of October 4th playing the first and third Wednesdays from 6 – 9. Come on down, we’d love to see you!
“The musical magic started back in 2005 and they played together for five years until their farewell concert at the season finale of [email protected] in August 2010.
They went out jammin’ that night — with a packed park and a dancing crowd.
Their band hiatus had everything to do with too many personal demands in their lives at the time.
One band member was living in White Sulphur Springs and another had a young son he wanted to spend more time with. Trying to get together for rehearsals and then gigs was a huge strain.
In the meantime, however, all of them continued to play music and lots of it.
They’ve had four reunion concerts in the seven years for special events.
Most recently, they played at a farewell party for Jim Tolan, one of the Ox owners who first suggested the band get together. And that sparked this new set of gigs at the Ox.
In 2005 there was a “trough” in the live music scene in Helena, said guitarist Mike Killeen.
That’s not the case today.
They’re happy to report there’s a lot of live music happening in Helena these days.
Along with Killeen, band members include Tim Borsberry, on drums; Chris Heisel, bass; and Michael Kakuk, harmonica, sax and slide guitar. All do vocals.”
