The Gold Bar started in 1935 by William D. Ferrat at 400 N. Last Chance Gulch as Gold Bar Beer Parlor. Over the years the bar changed hands numerous times, but continued in it’s original location under a variety of names: Gold Bar Liquors, Capri Grille, Capri Lounge, Gold Bar Casino, Sid’s Nevada Casino, The Pigalle, and T D’s Sports Pub.
In 1950, John Beck opened the Western Bar at 406 N. Last Chance Gulch. The Western Bar also changed hands and names over the years: J & M Western Bar, Glenn’s Western Bar, Rock’s Western Bar. It is currently Western Bar, but still sports the Rock’s Western Bar sign over the front door.
Over time, the Gold Bar and the Western Bar expanded to incorporate the entire 400-408 address locations. Since at least the early 90’s patrons have been able to stroll from one bar to the other without stepping foot outside.
